Reflexology South Africa

Reflexology is application of pressure to specific points and areas (reflexology points and areas) on the feet. It is believed that there is a link between reflexology points and organs and systems of the body, and that manipulation of these points has health benefits to the person’s body.

Pressure is applied by reflexologist’s thumbs or fingers. Foot maps are used in order to guide reflexologist while doing the work. The left foot is linked to the organs located on the left side of the body, while the right foot is linked to the organs on the body’s right side.

Foot massage and reflexology are not the same thing. At foot massage, massage therapist manipulates larger areas of person’s feet, while during reflexology specific feet points are being manipulated.

Benefits of reflexology:

  • Improves blood circulation,
  • Improves nerve functions,
  • Promotes relaxation,
  • Promotes elimination of toxins,
  • Boosts energy levels,
  • Eliminates pain, especially headaches,
  • Speeds up healing process,
  • May help in easing side effects of cancer treatments.

Before going for reflexology treatment, you should do some research. You want to find trained reflexologist with enough practice, rather than someone who has attended a week or two long course and believes knows all there is to know about reflexology. In order to get certified as a reflexologist it takes about 300 hours of education and training. But to become really good at it, it requires far more time in application and practice.

Reflexology treatments could be carried out once a week, or at least once a month. As a matter of fact, the more often you go for reflexology treatment, the better.
